The network's Top New Show of 2025 Gets a Substantial Extension for Two More Seasons.
Last October, the late-night programming block saw the return of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the channel launched a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns was gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a animated take of a serene talk show. During a period often marked by dark humor, this show's earnestness found an audience and turned it into a surprise hit.
A Significant Investment
On December 18th, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two additional seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.
"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," said Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."
Network Praise
The official statement also included laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and championed its uniquely offbeat appeal.
"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about following this lovable family go about their daily lives.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to help comedy break out of its current cynical streak. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
Future Seasons
Now, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well help usher in that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to enjoy the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
