The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.
Although not quite at the same level as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a prosperous future away from worry.”
This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “six seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The trend became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently declared “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to open the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
“It embodies the spirit of Miami: joyful, diverse, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Annually, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”
Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and cafecito as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
